As a person going my own pace, there is always more I want to do than I can. I have a growing bucket list and much of it is currently out of reach. So I’ve found a way to chase joy even with chronic illness – through a daily bucket list.

On a recent trip where I had planned to do many things, I got sick. None of the things I planned eventuated.

I realised that I’ve been waiting to get better. Relying on it, so I can keep up with my growing kids.

I already do all I can to be better. So I must focus on creating joy where I can.

Enter, My Daily Bucket List. Things I can do no matter my symptom levels that bring me joy.

Considerations for a daily bucket list

I considered what I love to do on a regular basis. What I would like to do daily. And what is practical.

My Personal Daily Bucket List

1. Pat the dogs
2. Snuggle my kids
3. Get outside
4. Move
5. Meditate
6. Read
7. Watch the birds

Making your own daily bucket list

This is going to be unique to you. Your preferences, abilities and responsibilities. But I encourage you to consider a daily bucket list. Small things that bring you joy.

You don’t need anything fancy. Simply a list at the back of your journal, in your planner, on a post it note, in your phone. Write it down so you will remember and create a system for reminding yourself.

Mine is so embedded now I only have to think about it when I’m very under the weather. Like when I was away. It would have been so easy to stay on the couch. But getting the beach and simply sitting there watching the waves roll in was a joy. Despite the high levels of fatigue and my inability to eat properly.

You deserve joy.

I also recommend a bigger bucket list because even with chronic illness, we shouldn’t lose sight of things we’d like to experience. Even if we have to adapt.

What’s on your daily bucket list?
