A very recent study showed that a short, one-off meditation combined with nature scenes improved pain and anxiety in fibromyalgia patients. More than audio alone.

The study was: A randomized controlled trial on single-session mindfulness self-compassion interventions for Fibromyalgia Syndrome: evaluating interoceptive awareness, anxiety, and pain, published in Current Psychology, 02 December 2024. See it here.

Cliff notes

They chose a “mindfulness self-compassion” seven minute intervention.

64 patients with fibromyalgia were split into three groups – a control group, audio only or audio plus nature scenes.

They did the intervention once.

Their findings were: “Both MSC groups showed significant improvements in IA, anxiety, and pain compared to the control group, with the audio-visual group showing the strongest effects. Enhanced interoceptive awareness significantly mediated anxiety reduction but not pain relief. Nature visuals further reduced anxiety and pain compared to audio-only.” (my bold) see here

This is not the first, nor will it be the last, study on mindfulness for fibromyalgia.

But the ease of this intervention caught my attention.
