I don’t often give outright recommendations. I prefer to share my journey, some research and let you decide what helps you best.
However there is ONE thing I think we should all be doing. Everyone. Regardless of our energy status.
This is a short and sharp blog post because I did a survey of my group members recently and they said they prefer bite size updates rather than long posts. So here it is in the most succinct manner possible.
And that’s rest.
Real and true rest. For our mind and body.
The best way I’ve ever found to do this as someone with ME/CFS and chronic insomnia, is Yoga Nidra guided meditation.
It is the only way I ever get a break from the ongoing bombardment of sensation in my body.
But that might not be the same for you. But I do think we need to find something profoundly relaxing. And the things that offer that are not many.
- Restorative yoga
- Meditation (there are many kinds, but mostly guided meditation works here)
- Breathwork practice

Why rest, first?
If someone is exhausted, in a load of pain and in the middle of a busy life, then they don’t need a list of additional things to do. They need rest. A way to calm their nervous system.
Hopefully the doctor is working with you on medications and sleep and pacing and pain management.
But it’s all a lot.
So break it down to the most valuable thing right now. Rest.
If you can learn to calm your nervous system and give your body rest – then it’s easier to do the rest. You accidentally sleep better, pace, manage pain. Maybe not in magical levels, but enough to help.
If we can dial down the nervous system and get some rest, I believe everything else is more likely to help.
